What this paper is about
This paper involves students undertaking a substantial, high-quality creative project as a means of exploring practice-related research. Building on the foundational methodologies explored in MEDIA501: Critical and Creative Approaches to Research, students will embark on a creative journey that will demonstrate their practical and theoretical skills. It is imperative that students engage with the Essential and Recommended Readings throughout the Trimester with their Supervisor's guidance.
Dr. Kyle Barrett is convening the paper in terms of administration only. Please contact your Supervisor as the primary contact. If there are general issues with the paper, please contact the convenor.
How this paper will be taught
Students will investigate a media-based research topic through creative practice methodologies. Practical outputs may include: short film, documentary, animation, photography, audio-visual installation. Though a creative output is crucial for the paper, the intent is for students to familiarise themselves with relevant theoretical frameworks that enhance critical thinking skills. Essentially, students will work with their Supervisor to produce scholarly research through practice-related methodologies. The project is expected to be of a high standard, ideally suited for public exhibition. Students will showcase their work at the end of the Trimester to industry, peers and academic staff.
There are 2 Lectures for the paper: an introduction at the start of Trimester A and a catch up session post-recess.
Workshops take place in I.4.09 (opposite the Screen and Media Studies Foyer ). You will be actively encouraged to share your projects, findings, and research for peer-review throughout the Trimester.
